The M and M Racing stable of Mike and Mickala Sisk is seeking to set a new single-season record for owner wins at Oaklawn in the upcoming ninth race. The couple has current even money favorit C J's Flair.
The Sisks have won three races on the card, tying the record of 48 wins in an Oaklawn season set in 1974 by Dan Lasater in the sixth race with Forst or Frippery ($5.20).
Sisk said Sunday he has about 20 people at the races this afternoon at Oaklawn. If he does not hit in the nightcap, he said he has five horses entered for Thursday, when racing resumes at Oaklawn.
Sisk said he set a goal of breaking the record, and a year ago began claiming horses with that quest in mind. The group he has brought to town includes a handful of folks who have never been to the races and they are enjoying Oaklawn, said Sisk.
The Sisks won last year's owner title at Oaklawn.
