For an ungraded race with a $74,000 purse, the Stall Memorial run at Fair Grounds in mid February has certainly proven to be a productive event.

Beau Recall, the runner up in the Stall Memorial, came back to win the New Orleans Ladies and, more importantly, the Grade 2 Distaff Turf Mile on the Kentucky Derby undercard.

Mitchell Road, who beat Beau Recall by three-quarters of a length in the Stall, just made her first start since in the Grade 3 Gallorette and led her field a merry chase after carving out solid, if not strong fractions.

Mitchell Road, a 4-year-old by English Channel, was winning her fourth straight and now has five wins and two seconds from seven career starts for trainer Bill Mott and has put herself right into the discussion of the current better female turf horses around.
