It's early and there's still the possibility for scratches and changes, but there are two horses running today that I want to bet (odds pending).
The Pennine Ridge at Belmont Park looks like a strong race on paper, but there's one horse I'm particularly interested in: DEMARCHELIER (3). Demarchelier is one of two entered for trainer Chad Brown, and while he may be lagging behind a bit when it comes to speed figures (he's also only run twice), visually he looks like he could be a serious racehorse. His victory at Keeneland most recently when facing winners for the first time was very impressive, and the form of that race has held up so far (two next-out winners earning low 80 Beyers). I think Demarchelier is a strong contender this afternoon and could be a major player in this three-year-old male turf division going forward; I'll play him at 3-1 or greater.
On the west coast, the three-year-old fillies on grass take a shot at a graded stakes race in the Honeymoon. To this point, I haven't been overly impressed by the fillies that have already tried graded stakes company, so I'm looking for a fresh face. OVER EMPHASIZE (2) goes out for top trainer Michael McCarthy, and I like the progression she's shown since being moved to the turf. Her most recent try was her first against winners, and I thought she acquitted herself nicely when finishing second. She's paired up Beyer tops, a move I think can indicate a forward move is coming, and the late kick she possesses stacks up well against these girls. I'll play Over Emphasize to win the Honeymoon at odds of 9/2 or better.
