Oaklawn Park moves into the strongest races on its card starting with the upcoming seventh, a first-level allowance for fillies and mares at six furlongs. The eighth is an optional $80,000 claiming route for 3-year-olds that could produce starters for the Arkansas Derby and the ninth is the $100,000 Purple Martin Stakes.
The sealed track that was listed as muddy to start the program has since been downgraded to sloppy. As such, it's time for Tomlinson Ratings.
Race 7 - Cardamon launches her season. She's from the same mare as both Emollient, a multiple Grade 1 winner of $1.3M, and Hofburg, a stakes winner and Grade 1-placed earner of $554K. Maryanorginger makes her first start in the overnight ranks after winning her career debut in last year's Astoria at Belmont Park. She faces older rivals here, in her second career start.
Race 8 - Answer In was third last out in the Southwest, with runner-up Wells Bayou coming back in his next start to account for the Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds and fifth-place finisher Taishan a first-level allowance at Oaklawn. Finnick the Fierce was second in the slop in last year's Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and note third-place finisher Tiz the Law won the recent Florida Derby.
Race 9 - Frank's Rockette and Edgeway, the probable top two choices in the Purple Martin, both will be racing on a wet track for the first time. Frank's Rockette has a wet track Tomlinson Rating of 415 and Edgeawy, 343.
