The Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby and the Springboard Mile for 2-year-olds are the co-richest races for the Remington Park meet that opens Aug. 21, the Oklahoma City track announced Wednesday. Each race is worth $200,000.
The stakes schedule will be comprised of 32 races worth a total of $2.8 million. The stakes purses for the meet have been reduced by a cumulative $820,000 due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Remington was unable to conduct simulcast racing or gaming for two months earlier this year, according to the press release from the track.
The Oklahoma Derby on Sept. 27 will share a card with the Grade 3, $100,000 Remington Park Oaks. The Springboard Mile highlights the closing day program Dec. 20. The Springboard Mile traditionally carries points for the Kentucky Derby. Last year, the Oklahoma Derby and Springboard Mile were each worth $400,000
The $1 million Oklahoma Classics Night card of statebred stakes is Oct. 16. The purse for the Oklahoma Classics Cup remains unchanged at $175,000.
