Just a Command, ridden by Tiago Pereira for trainer Eric Kruljac, drew $1,988 of the $235,980 bet to win, and was the second-longest shot in a field of 12. Just a Command ran past a tiring stretch leader in Ben's a Goalie and won by a neck over 17-1 Funkenstein.
The race took awhile. Just a Command ran 6 1-2 furlongs in 1:20.36. A colt by Forest Command, Just a Command was nith of 10 in a $50,000 claiming race for state-bred maidens in his debut at Los Alamitos on Dec. 17. Just a Command was fitted with blinkers for the first time on Saturday.
Just a Command drew $500 more in win bets than Proud Musket.
Just a Command paid $93.80 to place and $28.80 to show. The $1 exacta with Just a Command and Funkenstein paid $1,633. The 50-cent trifeca including 7-2 Ben's a Goalie paid $31,184.
