Arapahoe Park in Aurora, Colo., will launch a 30-date meet Wednesday. The season will run through Oct. 15.
Daily Racing Form entries for WEDNESDAY
Arapahoe plans to race every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with a uniform first post of 12 p.m. Mountain.
The meet is starting later than usual this year. The Colorado Horsemen’s Association said in a press release the reason for the delayed start was to enable Arapahoe to rebuild purse funds following last year's closures of its off-track betting sites due to the pandemic. Arapahoe's website lists 10 off-track betting parlors in Colorado.
The Colorado Horsemen's Association also announced there will be a $2,000 increase for all overnight races for open company. Colorado-breds who finish first through third in open company will be eligible for a purse bonus of up to $2,000.
The meet features races for Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses and Arabians.
Trainer Stetson Mitchell, who won last year's title, is back at Arapahoe, as is Adrian Ramos, who was the co-leading rider last year with Scott Stevens.
Admission is free, while some areas of the grandstand will be closed due to the pandemic, according to the press release from the Colorado Horsemen's Association.
Kim Oliver, an owner and trainer, is the new president of the Colorado Hosremen's Association.
