Louisiana Downs will have a special first post of 1:45 p.m. Central for the Louisiana Cup card of six stakes Saturday. The purses for each of the races have been boosted from $50,000 to $67,000. The races have brought out such notable Louisiana-bred runners as Net a Bear and Free Like a Girl. 

"The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association put some money up to supplement the purses to move them up, which was great," said Jake Delhomme, the retired NFL quarterback who owns Louisiana Cup Sprint starter X Clown.

Louisiana Downs has planned a full day of ontrack activities. The track has invited a number of local officials and state lawmakers to Louisiana Cup Day, according to a press release.

Announcer John McGary and publicist Martha Claussen will talk Louisiana Cup in a free ontrack seminar starting at 12 noon Saturday 

The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association will have a drawing for a pair of $1,000 college scholarships after Race 5. Register by 1:45 p.m. 

The apron will feature live music, food trucks, a bounce house and other activities Saturday.
